5 Essential Tips for Beginners
June 21st, 2021
Preparation is the key to success at Mainecrest Equestrian, and we have a few things that we like for everyone to know before they start on their journey

1: Everyone's Journey in riding is different, so we expect our horsemen and women to show respect to each person that walks through our doors. We value ALL our riders no matter whether they are just walking for the first time or jumping Grand Prix courses.
2: Be prepared to work hard for the horses. There are going to be days that are super hot, freezing cold, and definitely long, but the horses come first no matter what!

3: The saying goes, to dress for the job you want, and in riding that is true for both members of the team, the horse and the rider. All the fanciest clothes and gear wont protect a horse from rubs from a poor groom job, and loose clothing is no fun when it gets atttached to tack, or the fence, or in the horses mouth(we hope not anyways but you never know!). Also too, protect your toes!!! 1500 pound animals have no regard for the safety of your pinkie toe, and it will feel way worse then stubbing it on something if you get stepped on! If you have questions on appropriate attire, JUST ASK!

4: Timing is everything! If you're late, we're all late, and that makes it no fun for everyone. Show up with time to spare so you can care for your horse, and yourself and maybe take a bathroom break(sometimes).
5: Have patience, patience with yourself, your riding instructor, and your horse! There is no need to rush, the journey should be just as fun as the destination!
